At Nahimana Kitten Rescue, we believe adoption is more than just finding a home for a kitten—it’s about creating a meaningful connection between beings. "Nahimana" means Mystic, and we embrace the belief that animals and humans are deeply interconnected, learning from one another in ways that shape our collective evolution.
Unlike traditional shelters, we keep our rescue small—caring for only about fifteen kittens at a time. This ensures they grow up in a no-cage, home-like environment, where they receive the love, socialization, and care they need to become confident and affectionate companions. Each kitten is nurtured not just physically, but emotionally, in a space of kindness and compassion.

Our Mission
At Nahimana Kitten Rescue, we are dedicated to rescuing abandoned kittens between 4 and 11 weeks old, providing them with essential veterinary care, socialization, and a loving, nurturing environment. Our goal is to ensure that every kitten finds a forever home with an adopter who is fully committed to giving them a stable, happy, and healthy life.
Who We Are
Nahimana Kitten Rescue was born from a deep love of nature, a devotion to feline welfare, and a belief in the profound connection between humans and animals. Our journey began in the mountains outside Boone, NC, when a litter of tiny, helpless kittens was abandoned at the top of our property in the middle of a forest. Soon after, a starving, injured stray appeared outside a restaurant, crying for food. We scooped him up, gave him the care he desperately needed, and in that moment, we knew—we had to do more.
From that day forward, we committed ourselves to creating a sanctuary, a place where the most vulnerable—kittens—could heal, grow, and find their way home. With limited space, we chose to stay small, focusing on quality over quantity, ensuring that every kitten in our care receives the love, attention, and socialization they need to thrive. Since 2019, we’ve rescued nearly 300 kittens, along with mother cats in need, and thanks to our incredible volunteers and donors, nearly all have found loving, responsible homes.
We believe adoption is a lifelong commitment, and we take great care in matching each kitten with the right family. Through a thoughtful screening process and intentional pairings, we proudly maintain a 98% success rate in our adoptions. Because at Nahimana Kitten Rescue, it’s not just about saving lives—it’s about creating lasting connections, built on kindness, compassion, and the belief that we’re all on this journey together.
